Notes for Henry Rowe
His birth index:
Name: Mother's Maiden Surname:
ROWE, HENRY PLATT
GRO Reference: 1859 S Quarter in WOLSTANTON Volume 06B Page 125

Remarkably after their marriage no entries for them could be found in any census yet there are these birth registrations in Wolstanton with a search for Rowe birth with a mother’s maiden name of Knapper, from 1883 to 1903:
Last name First name(s) Year Of Birth Location
Rowe Emily 1886 Wolstanton, Staffordshire, England
Rowe Arthur 1888 Wolstanton, Staffordshire, England
Rowe George 1890 Wolstanton, Staffordshire, England
Rowe Henry 1893 Wolstanton, Staffordshire, England
Rowe Leonard 1897 Wolstanton, Staffordshire, England
Rowe Frederick Roberts 1900 Q2 Wolstanton, Staffordshire, England
Surely some of these will appear in the 1891 census?
None that I could see. Nor were there any deaths for any of the above.
Arthur did not appear in any census in Staffordshire.
George did not appear in any census with recognisable relative or otherwise.
Henry did not appear in any census in Staffordshire.
Leonard appeared with non-recognisable siblings in 1901 census.
Lenard did appear in 1911 with his mother ‘Lear’, a widow,
and brother Harry b. 1893 and sister Else b. 1896.
Lear reported she had had 7 children, all of whom were alive.
See Leah’s Misc Notes for full details
Frederick Robert(s) was probably the Frederick Rowe in an infirmary in Stoke upon Trent in 1911
and looks very clear on the 1939 census in Stoke on Trent as a deaf and dumb boot repairer.
With him and his family in 1851 was a widowed Leah Smith, born 14 Oct 1862 and an invalid.
Eventually Else’s birth record was found on the GRO site but FindMyPast did not include her mother’s maiden name:
Name: Mother's Maiden Surname:
ROWE, ELSIE KNAPPER
GRO Reference: 1895 S Quarter in WOLSTANTON Volume 06B Page 148
This brings the family up to the seven children reported by Leah in 1911:
Name: Mother's Maiden Surname:
ROWE, EMILY KNAPPER
GRO Reference: 1886 J Quarter in WOLSTANTON Volume 06B Page 169
ROWE, ARTHUR KNAPPER
GRO Reference: 1888 S Quarter in WOLSTANTON Volume 06B Page 155
ROWE, GEORGE KNAPPER
GRO Reference: 1890 D Quarter in WOLSTANTON Volume 06B Page 155
ROWE, HENRY KNAPPER
GRO Reference: 1893 J Quarter in WOLSTANTON Volume 06B Page 168
ROWE, ELSIE KNAPPER
GRO Reference: 1895 S Quarter in WOLSTANTON Volume 06B Page 148
ROWE, FREDERICK ROBERTS KNAPPER
GRO Reference: 1900 J Quarter in WOLSTANTON Volume 06B Page 156
ROWE, LEONARD KNAPPER
GRO Reference: 1897 D Quarter in WOLSTANTON Volume 06B Page 132
I get the view that Henry had something against censuses.
