Notes for John Blagrave
May 2009, TFPL: he is only known from “Founder’s Kin” by G D Squibb.  But a descent from the Blagraves of Berks is given in that book, p. 179, as a reason for various Blagrave relatives, see below,  receiving free education at St Johns, due to their relationship to Sir Thomas White, Founder of St John’s.  As yet I have not found the connection between these two sets of Blagraves.

The hopefully complete list of Blagrave relatives at St John’s is, from pp. 175-180 of Squibb’s book:
1594: George Blagrave,
1631: Francis Webb,
1716: Walter Saunders,
c. 1760: Philip Lybbe Powys and John Munday,
1772: George James Blagrave
1776: Joseph Harvey Bellas,
1786, George Deane,
1811: Edward Philip Cooper

All I can think of currently is to get in touch with St John’s College to see if they can assist.

However Ian Blagrave’s book “Blagrave and Blagrove” does show John Blagrave of Highworth, Wilts, who m. in 1482 Agnes Kebblewhite; but he does not show any link to the Berkshire family.  This indicates to me that the free education was received by the above by spurious means!  (The Name Is The Same.)
