Did he later, in 1954, marry E Millicent Coles?  He was then Major-General.  It looks that the answer is yes as the Times obituary of Dec 16 1959 says he was twice married:

“Major-General John Blakiston Houston, died on Monday [14 Dec 1959] at the age of 78.  The fifth son of John Blakiston Houston of Orangefield, Belfast, he was educated at Chletnham College and from the Militia he was commissioned in the 11th Hussars in 1902, later serving with mounted infantry in the South African War.

“During the First World War he was adjutant of his regiment, Staff captain to the 6th Cavalry brigade, D.A.A. and Q.M.G. of the 3rd cavalry Division and A.A. and Q.M.G. of the 1st cavalry Division.  He was nominated for admission to the Staff College, Camberley, in 1919, subsequently became brigade major, 1st Cavalry Brigade at Aldershot and commanded the 12th Lancers from 1923 to 1927.  On promotion to colonel he commanded the 2nd Cavalry Brigade and after six weeks on half-pay became Brigadier i/c Administration, Northern Command in 1931, under General Sir Francis Gathorne-hardy.  In August 1934, he joined the staff of the C.I.G.S. as Inspector of Cavalry.  In 1936 he was made C.B. and in 1938 he retired, but on the outbreak of war the following year, he was re-employed to command the 59th Division.  He commanded the Central Midland Area in 1940-1 and then reverted to retired pay.
“He was twice married.”
