Mon Inscripts notes for Thomas Powys Lord Lilford
From the Northants FHS booklet of Mon Inscriptions for St John the Baptist, Thorpe Achurch, pub 2015:

On al arge marble memorial:
“Near this spot are deposited the mortal remains of THOMAS, 2nd Lord Lilford who died July 4th 1825 in the 51st year of his age.  Called suddenly away in the midst of ripening excellencies he obeyed the summons with entire Christian confidence.  To a mindof rare accomplishment, purity, and refinement, he added talents of the highest order.  From public display he shrunk in strong self distrust, tho’ never never deaf to the call of his country’s exigencies.  His pure happiness was found in the offices of domestic life, where, as husband, father, brother, master, friend, he was never surpassed.  In these he displayed a singular combination of tenderness, delicacy, and strength.  For his children he laboured with undeviating anxiety.  “To train them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.”  “They rise up and call him blessed.”  In their hearts and those of the friends who shared his confidence, he has left a record that can never be effaced.  His piety was unobtrusive, deep, sincere, his carity that of the heart as well as the hand.  His last words those of parental warning and Christian thankfulness. “Mark the upright man, the end of that man is peace.”
