Now that the old house of lords is on ts last gasp, the time has come to
list the so-called great relatives, the peers of the realm with which we
have some relationship.
The criterion to include them is that they share a descent from on of our many 10 times Great-Grandparents. And we have 4096 of these, giving lots of opportunities to find peers in their descendants.

The most striking features of this list is how six separate peerages
descended from William Powys that tanner, smallholder and small farmer
of Ludlow, Shropshire. Though it should also be noted that almost all
these peers are new creations: the old families did not get involved
with upstarts.
While these 22 peers may seem a lot, the other number to conjure with is the ancestors who were peers which brings in all the benefit of a few genealogically lucky marriages. That number currently stands at 593, but then the number of medieval ancestors, mostly unknown of course, is into the millions.
